1 Asking for referrals
One of the easiest ways to find relevant and high-quality learning resources is to ask your network for referrals. Whether it is a book, a course, a podcast, or a blog, chances are someone in your network has already used it and can give you honest feedback and recommendations. You can also ask for referrals to mentors, coaches, or experts who can guide you and answer your questions.

When I want to learn something I start asking my relevant contacts for their top 3 suggestions... it normally takes me a good deal of information with some more theoretic material (the book that "everybody should read") as well as some more "practical advice" one.

I love when my network shares valuable resources like books or articles that are specific to items I am looking to grow in. I typically share leadership books and podcasts that I think will help others. I have been following free resources for Generative AI and ML topics from a few members of my network. There are so many free resources available too.

2 Joining online communities
Another way to learn new skills through your network is to join online communities related to your field of interest. Online communities are great places to exchange ideas, ask for advice, share insights, and learn from others' experiences. You can find online communities on platforms like LinkedIn, Slack, Reddit, or Quora, or join specific groups, forums, or newsletters that cater to your niche. By participating actively and contributing value, you can also expand your network and build relationships with like-minded professionals.

There are some great LinkedIn groups that share super valuable insights and resources. Following other leaders I typically get invited to also subscribe to their newsletters and those have led me to some great resources as well.

3 Attending webinars and events
A third way to learn new skills through your network is to attend webinars and events that cover topics relevant to your career goals. Webinars and events are not only sources of information and inspiration, but also opportunities to network with speakers, organizers, and attendees. You can find webinars and events on platforms like Eventbrite, Meetup, or Zoom, or follow the social media accounts of influencers, organizations, or publications in your industry. By attending webinars and events, you can also showcase your interest and enthusiasm, and make a positive impression on potential employers or collaborators.

4 Creating a learning circle
A fourth way to learn new skills through your network is to create a learning circle with your peers, colleagues, or friends. A learning circle is a small group of people who meet regularly to learn together, share feedback, and support each other. You can create a learning circle around a specific skill, topic, or project, and use online tools like Google Docs, Trello, or Skype to communicate and collaborate. By creating a learning circle, you can also increase your motivation, accountability, and enjoyment of learning.

When joining other online communities they may offer smaller groups to learn from each other. Suggest a topic and post in the group that you are looking for a few people to join a group. Pick a topic of interest and ask everyone to bring their insights weekly or bi-weekly. I love hosting come as you are or AMA online chats. It is a great way to meet new people. You can host one and ask someone else to host the next one. Provide a collaborative space for people to join and learn from each other.

5 Seeking feedback and advice
A fifth way to learn new skills through your network is to seek feedback and advice from your network. Feedback and advice are valuable for improving your performance, identifying your strengths and weaknesses, and overcoming challenges. You can seek feedback and advice from your managers, mentors, coaches, peers, or clients, and use online tools like SurveyMonkey, Google Forms, or Loom to collect and analyze their responses. By seeking feedback and advice, you can also demonstrate your willingness to learn, grow, and improve.
Learning new skills through your network is not only effective, but also fun and rewarding. By using these five ways, you can accelerate your learning process, enhance your professional reputation, and advance your career in enterprise software.
